Laurel Swift founded this in Year 2000, and it goes from strength to strength, regularly playing concerts and ceilidhs as the West London Folk Band.
It all starts with tunes which she teaches in West London.
It is held upstairs at West London Trade Union Club
33-35 High Street, Acton, London, W3 6ND. Parking in nearby streets is fairly simple, lots of buses pass the door and Acton Central Overground station is 5mins walk.
    Monday evening term-times: 7:15pm - 9:15pm.
    Cost: £7.50 per night.
Who comes? Bedroom musicians, beginner musicians, starting-again musicians, younger musicians, late bloomers, musicians that think they can only read the dots, musicians who worry that they can’t read the dots – you are all welcome.

Weds 26th March, 2014,folk session, Inn on the Green, Hanwell, 7.30pm

Message from Mary Doody:  Hope you can come and join in with this (mainly instrumental, mainly English folk music session) in the bar of a nice old pub with a nice landlord. (The tune list below is basically the same but has increased slightly month on month and now includes some easy Irish polkas.)

Inn On The Green,13 Lower Boston Road,Hanwell,W7 3TX (easy for Boston Manor tube, Hanwell mainline, all the Uxbridge Rd buses and the E8 or 195 up from Brentford).

Weds March 26th, 2014, 7.30pm.

Food available to buy at the bar.

First hour or so We [Laurel Swift’s Monday folk workshop people] will play our current barn dance set for the first hour to hour and a half (list  and links, opening in new window, below – but note easy Irish polkas). We might play it more than once. Join in with chords, or have a go at the tune, or read the dots – however you like to join in, but be welcome.

Rest of the time Any reasonably familiar easy tunes that anyone knows and thinks others can join in with. Some tips: the idea is to get everyone involved for as much of the time as possible sand give everyone who wants to a chance to start their favourite tunes/sets. It’s not a performance. Choose simple tunes. If you start a tune set try to make sure at least one of the set will be familiar to some/most of the others – play nice and steady so others get a chance to pick it up. Leave gaps between sets to give others a chance to start. Please announce name/s and key/s (if you can). Special tip: if you’re uncertain about starting a set, get someone else to start it with you. Special, special tip: Members of Ealing Folk Club, W7 Edge and Hanwell Ukulele Group especially welcome (note chords and dots on the website, see below, some printed copies of the tunes listed below will be available to share).

The odd song is appreciated.

Pass this around, bring friends, the more the merrier; see you there, hopefully.

    • Hi Eloise, The next full session is on 30 April – sorry, haven’t posted anything up about it yet. A few of us might go up on Weds 23rd but not certain. Ask again, Weds morning? Cheers, Gill
